USWNT concludes calendar year unbeaten for first time since '13
CARSON, Calif. -- The U.S. Women’s National Team concluded the year with an unbeaten record for the first time since 2013, taking a 5-0 victory over Romania in a friendly match at the StubHub Center Sunday night.
The U.S. (22-0-3 this year) compiled its best calendar year record ever, having twice previously gone unbeaten in 10 or more matches – 2006 (18-0-4) and ’13 (13-0-3).
Crystal Dunn scored a goal and had a shot deflected in for an own goal as the U.S. took a 2-0 halftime lead. Dunn’s cross from the end line on the right was redirected in in the 21st minute. Dunn added a 45th-minute goal, her 18th international score (14th this year), off a Christen Press feed, finishing from the right side of the penalty area.
Press one-timed a low shot into the left side of the net from just inside the top of the penalty area after a give-and-go with Tobin Heath in the 55th minute, upping her total to 41 goals in 80 appearances.
Morgan Brian increased the edge to four with an 88th-minute penalty kick. And Sam Mewis added a 90th-minute goal.
