Nor'easters romp over Reading United in PDL title game
READING, Pa. -- Reading United’s season came to an end as it fell, 4-1, to Ocean City Nor’Easters in the PDL Eastern Conference championship game Sunday night.
United took the lead in the first half on a free kick by Aaron Molloy, then lost Mo Conde to a 34th-minute red card. Despite saves by Steffen Kraus, Ocean City capitalized on the numerical advantage to score four goals in the second half, snapping an eight-game winless streak in Reading.
In the 22nd minute, Frantzdy Pierrot drew a foul from Ocean City defender Andrew Morrison. Aaron Molloy sent a 25-yard free kick past Mike Kirk for a 1-0 lead.
Twelve minutes later, Nathan Regis sprinted through, Conde taking him down, referee Brandon Smith awarding a penalty kick. Regis’ penalty attempt was saved by Kraus.
Moments later, Kraus made another stop. In stoppage time, Mutaya Mwape fired a shot off the crossbar, Regis heading the rebound, Kraus saving.
The Nor’easters leveled in the 55th minute as Mwape’s deflected free kick looped over Kraus.
Ocean City took the lead in the 76th minute, Mwape speedy past defender Mac Curran on the end line, touching on to Regis, who buried a shot at the near post.
In the 89th minute, Chevy Walsh found Miguel Jaime, who chipped Kraus for a 3-1 edge.
Then, Mwape stripped center back Kai Fernandes, launching a two on one breakaway, playing a square ball to Regis, who shot past Kraus for three-goal advantage.
