Onyewu, Epps score in second half of defeat against D.C. United

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Philadelphia Union rallied on second-half goals from Oguchi Onyewu and Marcus Epps in falling, 3-2, to D.C. United in the Suncoast Invitational at Al Lang Field Saturday.

Patrick Nyarko (14th minute), Jared Jeffrey (21st) and Patrick Mullins (24th) gave United a 3-0 halftime lead.

The Union, which played at a numerical disadvantage after losing Alejandro Bedoya to two cautions, cut the deficit as Onyewu headed in from a Richie Marquez header after Marquez had headed off the post in the 51st minute. Epps and Derrick Jones sparked the Union attack as second half substitutes, Epps converting his first goal of the preseason after advancing near the penalty area on the left and cutting to the middle to finish. Onyewu scored for the first time since the 2013-14 season with Sheffield Wednesday.
