DRAFT CHOICE SIGNING
Union adds defender Jack Elliott
The Philadelphia Union have signed defender Jack Elliott, the team announced Friday.
Elliott, a fourth-round (No. 77 overall) pick in the MLS SuperDraft, played for West Virginia University.
“We are excited to welcome Jack to the Union as he officially signs an MLS contract and joins our center back group,” Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said. “When you look at Jack, the first thing you notice is his height, an asset that we believe will serve him well as a professional. He is a good passer who reads the game well. He has performed well in preseason and we look forward to working with him this season and beyond."
Elliott, 21, a native of London, England, appeared in 68 matches (six goals) for the Mountaineers. Elliott was named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region First Team and the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team, WVU’s first three-time Academic All-America honoree.
Elliott played 90 minutes in the Union’s 1-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies Feb. 18 and was a 63rd-minute substitute in a 2-2 draw with Montreal Feb. 22.
