Union set to meet Tampa Bay in preseason tournament

CHESTER, Pa. -- The Philadelphia Union will meet the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the opener of the Rowdies Suncoast Invitational Feb. 18, the team announced Tuesday.

The tournament will also feature the Montreal Impact, D.C. United, the Chicago Fire and Toronto FC.

“The Rowdies Suncoast Invitational is a terrific opportunity for Earnie (Stewart), Jim (Curtin) and the players to prepare for the 2017 MLS season against elite competition,” Union chief business officer Tim McDermott said. “We are excited for Union supporters to have the chance to see their team in game action and in the overall great environment created by our partners at Visit Saint Pete/Clearwater. The City of Clearwater continues to provide us with world class training facilities which help accelerate our development."

The Union begin preseason at the University of Pennsylvania Monday before departing for Clearwater, Fla., for the third consecutive season. The first camp is set Jan. 31-Feb. 10, the second Feb. 14-26.

The Union will meet the Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18; the Montreal Impact (Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex at 7 p.m. Feb. 22) and D.C. United (Al Lang Stadium at 5 p.m. Feb. 25).
