Union draft choice signs with Bethlehem
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Bethlehem Steel FC has signed Philadelphia Union draft pick Santi Moar, the team announced Monday.
“When you are playing in college soccer, you always hope that you can become a professional and take that next step and, luckily, Bethlehem Steel FC gave me this opportunity,” Moar said. “I believe Bethlehem will be a great place for me. Coach (Brendan) Burke and (Union sporting director) Earnie Stewart have shown great confidence in me and that makes this decision even easier.”
"We are very excited to have Santi on board,” Burke said. “We were able to scout him through the summer and fall and think that he will add a new dimension to our attack in 2017. He has goals in him and very good vision to match. We hope that he will compete to start right away."
Moar, a fourth-round pick, had 24 goals and 33 assists in two seasons with NCAA Division II power Pfeiffer University. In his junior season, Moar had 10 goals and 14 assists in 24 matches, earning first team All-Conference Carolinas, and second team All-Region and All-State honors, as the Falcons won the national championship. Last season, Moar had 14 goals and a team-high 19 assists in 20 starts as Pfeiffer won its third consecutive Conference Carolinas tournament championship, Moar earning NCCSIA second team and All-Southeast Region honors.
Moar played for the Charlotte Eagles of the PDL, scoring eight goals and earning PDL All-Eastern Conference honors as the team won the South Atlantic Division last year.
