Liguilla quarterfinals - second leg roundup

#5Tigres 1, #4Chiapas 0 (Tigres advances 3-1)
Tigres advanced to the Liguilla semifinals with a 1-0 win over Jaguares Saturday at Estadio Victor Manuel Reyna.

UANL win the aggregate-goal quarterfinal 3-1, and will face Toluca in the next round.

Andre Pierre-Gignac scored the only goal of the match, his second of the postseason, in the 21st minute. Rafael Sobis set the table with a pass to the top of the arc. The Frenchman chested the ball down, spun right and buried the shot.

Gignac also hit the crossbar before the intermission.

#3 Leon 2, #4 America 1
A 2-1 win over Club America Saturday at Estadio Nou Camp was not enough to lift Leon into the liguilla semifinals.

The Aguilas move on by a 5-3 aggregate score, and will face top-seeded Pumas for a berth in the Apertura championship.

Hernan Burbano put the Esmeraldas on the board in the 44th minute, after netminder Moises Munoz blocked a ball back into play.

Leon goalkeeper William Yarbrough did well to save back-to-back shots by Oribe Peralta and Darwin Quintero, but could not reach Dario Benedetto's long-range equalizer in the 78th. Elias Hernandez closed things out for Leon in the 83rd.

#1 Pumas 1, #8 Veracruz 0 (Pumas advance as higher seed after 1-1 aggregate draw)
Fidel Martinez's eighth-minute goal was enough to nudge top seeds Pumas into the Liguilla semifinals with a 1-0 win over #8 Veracruz Sunday at Estadio Olimpico Universitario.

UNAM advance as the higher seed after the series ended in a 1-1 aggregate draw, and will face Club America in the semis.

Both teams came out determined to seize the early advantage. Barely two minutes into the match, Tiburones playmaker Julio Furch sent a dangerous ball into the goalmouth for Fernando Meneses, but 'keeper Alejandro Palacios blocked the pass away before it reached its intended target.

Six minutes later, Martinez tapped the deciding shot over the line, capping a quick passing sequence that started with Daniel Luduena, whose through ball was relayed into the goalmouth by Ismael Sosa. Eduardo Herrera threatened to open up a 2-0 Pumas lead, but his shot was saved by netminder Meliton Hernandez in the 40th minute.

Furch had another solid chance for Veracruz in the 51st minute, just missing with a header, and Fidel Martinez sent the visitors' best opportunity of the match off the post in the 63rd.

#2 Toluca 1, #7 Puebla 0 (Toluca advances 3-2 on aggregate)
Toluca edged Puebla 1-0 Sunday at Estadio Nemesio Diez, and advances to the Liguilla semifinals by a 3-2 aggregate score.

The Diablos Rojos will face Tigres for a berth in the Gran Final.

Neither team had an abundance of chances. Alberto Acosta forced Diablos netminder Alfredo Talavera into a diving save in the 66th minute, and Carlos Esquivel sent a Toluca free kick clanging off the post in the 74th. Fernando Uribe scored the only goal of the match, chesting down a pass from Oscar Rojas and burying a shot in the 85th minute.
