Match Day 5 roundup

Morelia 2, America 2
Morelia and Club America traded goals on their way to a 2-2 draw Friday at Estadio Morelos.

Marco Palacios put last-place Monarcas (0-3-2, 3 pts) on the board with a short header in the 32nd minute, only to see Dario Benedetto redirect Darwin Quintero's service inside the far post for the Aguilas (2-2-1, 8) four minutes later. Carlos Guzman restored Morelia's lead with a well-placed left-footer in the 66th minute, but once again America mounted a quick response, when Pablo Aguilar finished off a Quintero free kick for the 2-2 equalizer in the 71st.

Veracruz 1, Queretaro 1
Angel Sepulveda scored in the final minute to lift Queretaro (1-2-2, 5 pts) into a 1-1 draw with fourth-place Veracruz (2-3-0, 9) Friday at Estadio Luis Pirata Fuentes.

Sepulveda's goal, off a corner kick, countered Daniel Villalva's opportunistic 85th-minute strike for the Tiburones Rojos. Villalva was lurking off the far post to poke home a long cross from Fernando Meneses.

Santos Laguna 1, Chivas 0
Djaniny scored the only goal Santos Laguna needed to slip past Chivas 1-0 Friday at Estadio TSM Corona.

The Cape Verdean striker sent the deciding shot glancing off the post past netminder Luis Michel from just inside of the penalty area in the 64th minute. Santos goalkeeper Federico Marchesin preserved the win with an athletic save on a late shot from David Toledo.

The Guerreros improve to 3-0-2 and nine points, while Chivas slip to 2-1-2 (7).

Cruz Azul 1, Monterrey 0
Chaco Gimenez scored in the 23rd minute and Cruz Azul held on for a 1-0 win over Monterrey Saturday at Estadio Azul.

Gimenez won the game, and sent La Maquina (3-2-0, 11 pts) to the top of the table, with a sizzling left-footer off a set-up pass from Alemao.

The Rayados are in 16th place at 1-1-3 and four points.

Tigres 1, Puebla 0
Tigres (2-0-3, 6 pts) edged Puebla 1-0 Saturday at Estadio Universitario.

Joffre Guerron scored the game's only goal, off a corner kick in the 52nd minute, after having been robbed by netminder Rodolfo Cota of a penalty kick score in the tenth minute.

Puebla fall to 1-2-2 (5).

Pachuca 1, Toluca 1
Pachuca took an early lead, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Toluca Saturday at Estadio Hidalgo.

Erick Gutierrez put the Tuzos on the board with a 17-yard shot in the fourth minute, after netminder Alfredo Talavera blocked back-to-back shots. Substitute Wilder Guisao equalized for Toluca in the 71st.

The result leaves the Tuzos at 1-1-3 and four points. Toluca are in sixth place at 2-2-1 (8).

Chiapas 2, Tijuana 2
Tijuana rallied to a 2-2 draw with Chiapas Saturday at Estadio Victor Manuel Reyna.

Jaguares seized the early momentum with a 14th-minute goal by Aviles Hurtado. Matias Vuoso did the heavy lifting with a strong run in from midfield, leaving Hurtado with an easy knee-poke into the net. The first half ended in a 1-1 deadlock after Jesus Chavez broke the ice for Xolos off Juan Arango's corner kick in the 40th. Vuoso restored Chiapas' lead in the 49th minute, off an assist from Hurtado, but Richard Ruiz equalized 30 minutes later, with a shot to the upper right corner.

Tijuana fall to second place at 3-1-1 and ten points. Eighth-place Chiapas are 2-2-1 (8).

Leon 1, Pumas 0
Leon scored twice in the first half on their way to a 3-1 win over Pumas Sunday at Estadio Olimpico Universitario.

Mauro Boselli (23rd minute) and Miguel Sabah (38) put the game in Leon's pocket before the intermission, with Sabah netting the game-winner off a corner kick. Eduardo Herrera snagged a loose ball and took one back for UNAM in the 75th minute, but Martin Bravo countered for the Esmeraldas barely two minutes later.

The result leaves both teams at 1-2-2 and five points.

Atlas 2, Leones Negros 0
Atlas blanked Leones Negros 2-0 Sunday at Estadio Jalisco.

Aldo Leao opened the scoring with a 20-yard blast to the upper corner in the 29th minute, and Enrique Perez added an insurance goal in the 52nd.

U de G (1-1-3, 4 pts) put only one of their 11 shots on goal.

The Zorros end the week at 3-1-1 and ten points.
