Should the Washington Post report come to pass that MAC Hermann Trophy winner Ian Harkes has agreed to terms with D.C. United and is expected to sign so he can start training camp next week, he would become the fifth son of a former MLS player to join the league and second in less than two years.

Coming full circle
When MLS started in 1996, all 10 teams played in stadia where either NFL or college football teams were the primary tenant (if not the building owners). Oversized seating capacity, narrow fields, obtrusive line markings, uneven surfaces and schedule changes necessitated by NFL games – not to mention the exorbitant rents in some cases, restrictions on advertising and the loss of other revenue streams – were among the many reasons MLS teams strived to distance themselves from their American football brethren.

Las Vegas’ hopes of getting an MLS team were put on hold nearly two years ago when Commissioner Don Garber said Sin City wouldn’t be considered “until after 2018." Two years until the start of 2019, Las Vegas is moving to re-enter the race.

Outplayed Sounders win MLS Cup over Toronto FC in pks
TORONTO -- The third time was the charm for Seattle Sounders FC Saturday night. Despite being outplayed for most of the match, the Sounders won their first Division 1 pro soccer title, outlasting Toronto FC in penalty kicks, 5-4, after playing 120 minutes of scoreless soccer to capture MLS Cup at before a capacity crowd of 36,045 at BMO Field.
Two years after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, the Major League Soccer commissioner says he is cancer free.
"My health is great," Garber said at his state of the league address at the Intercontinental Hotel Friday afternoon. "I am a year cancer free.
