'Nova bounced by Butler in Big East semis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Villanova men’s team’s 287-minute shutout streak was snapped as the Wildcats fell, 1-0, in extra time to Butler in the semifinals of the Big East Conference tournament at the Butler Bowl Thursday night.

The Wildcats (10-7-3) were outshot, 14-13. The Bulldogs (12-5-1) broke the deadlock on David Goldsmith’s 107th-minute header, his 12th goal of the season.

“If you look at our effort overall from the beginning, we had a game plan, and the team bought into it, they played fantastic,” ‘Nova coach Tom Carlin said. “I am proud of the senior and our team’s effort. We really, through stretches of the game, were the better team and credit to Butler, they are a great team. But we really felt like we let one slip here.”
