VILLANOVA WILDCATS

November 7, 2016
MEN'S COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
'Nova Wildcats goalkeeper Will Steiner

The Villanova Wildcats clamped down on DePaul until the late-going in their Big East Conference tournament first-round match Sunday, leaving goalkeeper Will Steiner with little action until making the deciding plays in penalty kicks.

The Blue Demons began finding the range, hitting the post in the 83rd minute and crossbar in the 84th minute, though none of their attempts counted as a shot on goal until after the 100th minute. Then, Steiner made two saves as the match ended 0-0, plus three stops as the Wildcats took a 3-1 penalty kicks decision.

Steiner, the Philly Soccer News Men's Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 6, made saves on Kevin Beyer, Simon Megally and Erik Rodriguez.

As ‘Nova coach Tom Carlin said: “When you have Will Steiner on your side in a shootout, you breathe a little easier.”
