Philly Soccer News honors Penn State’s Hayes
Penn State forward Maya Hayes has been named the Philly Soccer News Women’s College Player of the Year. She also is among the finalists for the Soccer News Net Women’s College Boot, awarded to the national player of the year.

The nominations included athletes playing at colleges within the site’s coverage area, as well as athletes from the area playing collegiately elsewhere in the country.
Hayes (West Orange, NJ/Newark Academy/Montclair Aristocrats) was the 2011 Big Ten Forward of the Year and an All Big Ten First-Team selection. The Nittany Lions sophomore led the nation in goals (27) and points (62).
Hayes earned four conference Offensive Player of the Week honors this season and scored the game-winner in nine of her 23 games, all starts, going into the NCAA tournament. In the tournament, she collected another four goals in three games. She was the Soccersavings.com/Philly Soccer News College Player of the Week three times this season and the Soccersavings.com/Soccer News Net College Player of the Week for the week of September 4.
