Meet the Candidates, and Vote!

Penn State senior forward Connor Maloney is one of three nominees for the Philly Soccer News menís college player of the year and the Soccer News Net Menís College Boot, recognizing the national player of the year.

Maloney, a Penn State tri-captain, scored eight goals (two game-winners) in 17 games, leading the team in scoring for the third successive season and being named to the All-Big Ten Conference First Team for the third successive season. Maloney, named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region second team, provided two game-winning assists and scored both goals as the Nittany Lions (8-8-2) tied No. 22-ranked Akron, 2-2, Oct. 18.

Since his first season at Penn State in 2013, Maloney has displayed an all-around game, leading the team with seven assists and being named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team, then scoring 10 goals and being named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore. Maloney totaled 26 goals in 73 career games, and had 17 assists, tied for 18th on the all-time PSU list with Rich Reice, Peter Jancevski, Jeff Maierhofer and Kamel Haddad.

Maloney, who played for the Philadelphia Union Academy team, was called up to the U.S. U-23 national team camp in preparation for Olympic Games qualifiers last year.

Maloney was the Philly Soccer News Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 24.

Fan voting accounts for 40% of the total toward selection of the Soccer News Net College Boot, and the winner of the popular voting receives the Soccer News Net Supportersí Choice award.
