Explorer women dropped by Dukes

PITTSBURGH -- The La Salle women’s team surrendered a 110th-minute goal in falling, 2-1, in extra time to Duquesne in the Explorers’ Atlantic 10 Conference season-ending match Sunday.

The Explorers (4-9-4 overall, 3-3-2 A-10) played most of the game with a numerical disadvantage after Paige McDowell was red-carded in the 35th minute. The Dukes (10-5-3, 4-4-1) took the lead on the first of two Cydney Staton goals in the 54th minute. Maci Bower headed in a Danielle Marx corner to equalize in the 86th minute, her fifth goal of the season. Staton then converted on a breakaway with four seconds remaining on the clock in the second overtime period.
