Black Knights, Midshipmen kick off Patriot League season at Talen Energy Stadium

CHESTER, Pa. -- Army-Navy Cup V will serve as the Patriot League opener for both teams, kicking off at 7 p.m. Friday at Talen Energy Stadium.

Navy (2-3-1) has a 40-28-14 record in the rivalry, going 2-1-1 since Army-Navy Cup was established in 2012. Army West Point (2-3-1) took a 2-1 in last year’s game.

The match attracted crowds of 10,168 fans in 2014 and 9,316 last year, the third-largest regular-season crowds in NCAA Division I men's soccer each season.

“The Army-Navy Cup is a great showcase for our program,” Navy first-year coach Tim O’Donohue said. “Army-Navy is one of the great rivalries in sports; professional or college. We are really excited to play in the game and we are getting the team prepared to put on a great performance at Talen Energy Stadium. We are hoping to get a great turnout from our Navy supporters for our team. It’s a great showcase for our team and we will be putting our best foot forward.”

"We're excited to see this game continue to grow,” Army West Point coach Russell Payne said. “The fan support for Army-Navy Cup has been great. The support we get from the West Point folks, in terms of how they've gotten behind the game and pushed it to the level that you've seen the last four years, has been incredible."

There will be a ceremonial pre-game coin toss with U.S. national team Women’s World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Christie Rampone and U.S. Congressman Patrick Meehan, plus a fan fest on Toyota Plaza.

At halftime, two Philadelphia-area high school players will receive the inaugural First Lieutenant Travis Manion & Corporal Michael Crescenz Award honoring the motto, “If Not Me Then Who …”

The match will be shown on the American Sports Network and broadcast on 68 local stations in 25 states and Washington, D.C., and nationwide on Direct TV (NESN) and Dish Network (NESN). The announcers will be Jason Knapp and Richard Broad. Live video will be streamed on PatriotLeague.TV.
