Army-Navy Cup set for Oct 2

CHESTER, Pa. – One of the most enduring and hotly contested rivalries in all of collegiate sports will renew its soccer edition when Army faces Navy in a Patriot League match-up at PPL Park. Army-Navy Cup IV will take place on Friday evening, Oct. 2, 2015.

“We’re extremely honored to host such a special event involving the future leaders of our country,” Union CEO and Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz said. “We’re thrilled that this match has grown to the amazing spectacle it has become, showcasing the hard work these student-athletes give on a daily basis – and what an incredible three matches we’ve seen already. We appreciate the support from both academies and look forward to putting on another must-see match at PPL Park.”

Army West Point Head Coach Russell Payne and his Black Knights, will be the home team.

“We are very excited to return to PPL Park for the fourth installment of the Army-Navy Cup this October,” Army West Point Athletic Director Boo Corrigan said. “The first three meetings brought many positives to this great rivalry, both on the field and off, and we look forward to watching this game continue to grow in the years to come.”

Head Coach Dave Brandt will lead his Navy Midshipmen into the match, with a two-game win streak in this series.

“This annual match-up, in a magnificent venue, has taken the Army-Navy experience to a new level, said Navy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk. “Players, coaches and fans have all thoroughly enjoyed a fantastic environment, where every game has been a fight, right to the finish.”

More than 3,700 fans were on hand for the inaugural Army-Navy Cup in 2012. That grew to nearly double that number in 2013 and last year, broke the 10,000 barrier, as local sponsors, youth and veterans groups all combined to grow the game and the event.

A special discounted presale for Army-Navy Cup IV will begin Friday, June 26 at 10 a.m. and will run through Wednesday, July 1 at 9:59 a.m. Tickets will then be on-sale for the general public starting at just $20 and are available exclusively through www.ComcastTIX.com, by phone at 1-800-298-4200 or in person at the PPL Park box office.
